| my
goggles are handmade in London, UK using machinist
tools (lathe and mill check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machining), when
it takes only a few seconds to inject plastic goggles or to press a tin
sheet, mine will require several hours to machine them out of an aluminium
alloy billet. in total I spend 8 hours to make a pair of basic goggles,
1/3rd of this time is spent on the machines, the remaining is hand assembly
and various works. My goggles are built to last, they are made of solid
quality aluminium alloys (not light 1009 alloy, check the mechanical properties
of the 6083T6 or the 2017T3), they feel heavy and sturdy. the lenses are
made of strong PERSPEX acrylic 3mm thick, all the hardware bolts and nuts
are high quality stainless steel, lining is medical silicone ( wide range
of available colours). the goggles have been improved since my first sellings:
the way the silicone is attached to the frame, I have changed the nosebridge
design to make it indestructible, all the bolts are bonded with industrial
lock thread (except the bolts around the lenses, in order to be changed
easely). even the elastic band is a good one, wide enough that won't tear
and wear like a cheap thong. My goggles are so versatile you can re-drill
them to add more bolts, to customize them, adding LED lights or any gizmos
with no fear of destroying them. you could step on the goggles, smashed
against a wall, they can handle a pogo in a outraged dancefloor or a sandstorm
at the burningman festival. the goggles are serviceable, you can change
/ fix any parts, ask for an optician to fit other kind of lenses, etc...
For the ones who want to use the goggles as sunglasses I have worked on
a glacier model, it features glass lenses and the frame is a bit different
(less tunnel for a wider visual field). but most of all, enjoy ! |
