[aluminum

duralumin has been the first aluminum alloy, invented in the early
1900s and intensively used for building featherlight airframes for
airships (this photo is a close-up of a duralumin truss structure,
Zepellin museum, Friedrischshafen) .
aluminum alloy (such as the 6xxx serie) is especially suited for
massive body jewellery:
- nearly 3 times lighter than chirurgical stainless steel (300g
for a choker instead of 1Kg)
- unlike steel it can be anodised, and its machined aspect is outstanding
- unlike chirurgical steel there is no nickel in 6xxxx aluminum
(no risk of allergy)
- it's cheaper than titanium (of course it's not the point if you
can afford a £300 titanium choker)
- i am using the 6082T6 alloy, a high strength alloy, the highest
of the 6000 alloys, most commonly used for machining. The alloy
6082 is widely used in structural applications in the building,
marine and transport industries.
